The EIC Fund is the European Innovation Council’s venture-capital investment arm, established in 2020 with the European Commission as its shareholder. It invests equity and quasi-equity alongside private investors in high-risk European startups and scale-ups commercialising breakthrough technologies, including AI, quantum computing, semiconductors, advanced materials, biotechnology and medical devices. It provides the investment component of the EIC Accelerator and STEP Scale Up programmes, with patient capital and follow-on support. An external fund manager manages investments, supported by the European Investment Bank as investment adviser; grants and programme selection are administered separately by the Commission and EISMEA.
