Cluj-Napoca, Romania
.lumen (Dotlumen SRL) is a Romanian deep technology company founded in 2020 and based in Cluj-Napoca. It develops Pedestrian Autonomous Driving AI, combining computer vision, onboard environment understanding and directional haptic feedback. Its Glasses for the Blind use six cameras and run navigation locally to identify safe walking paths and guide users through vibrations on the forehead while preserving hearing. The company announced CE certification in May 2025 and is scaling manufacturing with Arrow Electronics, with a Japan pilot supported by Toyota Mobility Foundation in 2026. Its work includes sensory substitution and clinical usability research; it does not claim a neural implant or restoration of biological vision. The same pedestrian AI is being developed for autonomous urban delivery robots. The current site reports over 50 researchers, engineers and designers, but many team members are named only by first name. A €5 million investment closed in January 2025 led by Catalyst Romania, including EIC Fund, Tigrim and €1 million of crowdfunding facilitated by SeedBlink. EIT Urban Mobility announced a further investment in December 2025 with undisclosed amount. EU grants and consortium project budgets are tracked separately from equity financing.
