SOSV
SOSV is a global venture capital firm backing deep technology companies from inception, with a focus on human and planetary health. Managing General Partner Sean O’Sullivan founded the firm in 1995 after the IPO of MapInfo. SOSV combines pre-seed investment with laboratories, engineering resources and business support through its HAX and life sciences programs in San Francisco, New York and Newark, and continues investing at seed, Series A and later stages. Its areas of activity include biotechnology, medical technology, robotics, advanced manufacturing and other frontier technologies. The firm reports $1.5 billion in assets under management in 2026, anchored by its $306 million core Fund V; assets under management and portfolio companies’ aggregate fundraising are distinct measures. SOSV was an explicit investor in Canaery’s over-$4-million 2022 seed round; that neurotechnology company is now General Sense. Its current website identifies Westley Dang as seconded CEO of General Sense alongside his SOSV role. The public corporate site reports nine general partners and approximately eighty staff. Orbit Startups and dlab became independent of SOSV in 2023, while remaining part of its wider consortium.
