Illumina Ventures is an independently managed venture investor focused on genomics, precision health, life-science tools, diagnostics, therapeutic platforms and related digital-health and planetary-health applications. Nicholas (Nick) Naclerio founded the firm in 2016. Its legal manager is IIF Management Company, LLC (CRD 283782; SEC exempt reporting adviser file 802-107904), headquartered in Foster City, California. It operates separately from Illumina Inc., the sequencing company and strategic anchor investor in its funds.
The current public team includes investment professionals, scientists, US and UK laboratory staff, venture partners, external advisers and operations staff. Chief AI Scientist Martin Moorhead contributes expertise in machine learning, computational biology and genomics. The published portfolio includes AI drug-discovery companies Iambic Therapeutics and DeepSeq.AI, AI and automation platform Bullseye Biosciences, and machine-learning company Integrated Biosciences. Encoded Therapeutics and Kallyope establish genetic-medicine and neuroscience relevance. These investment themes do not establish regulatory approval or clinical efficacy for investigational portfolio products.
The firm manages the legally separate Illumina Innovation Funds I, II and III. Fund I announced a $230 million close on October 16, 2017; Fund II announced a $325 million close on September 20, 2021. Fund III reported $60 million sold in its August 29, 2025 Form D amendment; that disclosed partial raise is distinct from its $200 million offering target and an unverified final close. Current fund asset values and earlier aggregate capital-under-management figures are not additional cash raised. Alamar Biosciences investments are attributed to the actual participating fund vehicles under this manager, preserving their distinctions from corporate Illumina and personal investments.
