Aitia
Aitia is a Cambridge, Massachusetts biotechnology company using causal artificial intelligence and computational digital twins to discover and develop drugs. Formerly GNS Healthcare, it adopted the Aitia name in January 2023. Its REFS causal modeling platform and Gemini Digital Twins combine multi-omic patient data and high-performance computing to investigate disease mechanisms and therapeutic targets, with work in Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s and Huntington’s diseases and oncology. Colin Hill is co-founder and CEO, and Jean-Michel Gries is president and COO. Disclosed financing includes an investment from Cambia in 2012, USD10 million Series B in 2014, USD10 million Series C in 2015, separate undisclosed Horizon and Celgene investments in 2016, USD6 million additional equity in 2017 and Series D totaling USD28 million after its 2020 extension. Charles River made an undisclosed equity investment in 2023 alongside a drug-discovery collaboration. Collaboration and licensing agreements are distinguished from equity investments; these disclosures do not establish a complete lifetime funding total.
