National Institute on Aging
Bethesda, Maryland, United States · Baltimore, Maryland, United States
The National Institute on Aging (NIA) is a United States federal biomedical research institute within the National Institutes of Health, established in1974 under PublicLaw93-296. It conducts and supports research on aging, older adults’ health and well-being, Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias through intramural laboratories, extramural grants, training and small-business research programmes. Its neuroscience and deep-technology relevance includes neurobiology of aging, dementia prevention and care, clinical and imaging technologies, sleep research, behavioral science, genomics and translational aging research. NIA is a public institutional grant provider, not a private venture capital firm or a separately inferred NIH investment fund. Richard Hodes remains institute director inSeptember2026 reports; Kenneth Santora is acting deputy director in2026 and directs extramural activities. NIH’s own investigator biographies verify LuigiFerrucci as scientific director and JosephineEgan as clinical director. The profile records publicly named institute/division leaders and relevant programme staff with source-date qualifications. Older public-directory titles for AmyKelley, EvanHadley, StacyCarrington-Lawrence, SamirSauma and PatrickShirdon are not silently treated as independently verifiedOctober2026 appointments. July2026 recruitment for the neuroscience division director does not establish an incumbent. NIA’s site currently returnsHTTP405 for direct directory and portrait retrieval; this prevents verification of the complete institute-wide staff directory and some public headshots. Two original caption-bound NIH IntramuralResearchProgram portraits and the authentic archived government NIA wordmark are verified, and existing shared NIH person images and roles are preserved. Federal appropriations, proposed budgets and programme envelopes are not LP fund closes, fundraising proceeds or paid issuer cash. NIH RePORTER identifies NIA as the administering/funding institute for six separately sourced SleepSpace/ProactiveLife small-business awards; the issuer owner links exact award amounts and notice dates, without duplicating a parent NIH participation or asserting disbursement dates.
