Cambridge Angels
Palo Alto, California · London · Cambridge, United Kingdom
Cambridge Angels is a UK non-profit business angel network founded in September 2001 by Robert Sansom and David Cleevely. It connects early-stage technology and healthcare companies with experienced individual investors, provides curated opportunities and supports founders through mentoring, governance and professional networks. The group identifies a focus spanning software and AI, hardware, semiconductors, sensors, biotechnology, medical devices and digital health. Its present website identifies Amy Weatherup and Robert Swann as co-chairs, a ten-person published board, four named management people and a selected public list of individual members. Charlotte Kirby is explicitly on maternity leave; former chairs and emeritus or memorial affiliations are distinguished from current management. The own-site privacy policy identifies Cambridge Angels Group Limited, company 11413268. Companies House records that active entity as a company limited by guarantee without share capital, incorporated 13 June 2018. The 2001network founding and 2018legal incorporation are different milestones. Similarly named Cambridge Angels Ltd 13710404 and dissolved Cambridge Angels Ltd 07120891 are not assumed to be aliases or merged into the group without further legal proof. The existing application record remains typed InvestmentFirm, with its description qualifying the underlying non-profit angel-network structure. Membership is invitation-only and capped at 65 individual members alongside corporate/research members. The public directory is a selected roster rather than permission to infer private members. Members make their own independent investment decisions on each opportunity: the network explicitly states that it does not pool member assets, exercise investment discretion or manage their investments. Operating costs are covered by membership fees and sponsorship; the group states it charges companies neither pitching nor carry fees. No pooled LP fund, fundraise or discretionary AUM is manufactured from aggregate member investment totals. The homepage reports support for more than 150 companies; the portfolio page separately reports cumulative investment exceedingGBP 150 million in over 120 portfolio companies. These are undated cumulative network figures with different coverage, not one closed fund or paid tickets into individual companies. Its current exact-domain portfolio explicitly lists Eye2Gene as an AI-powered ophthalmology platform. That proves a group/member investment affiliation, but does not identify subscribing members, an exact ticket, series allocation or closing day. No personal member checks are inferred from directory membership. Current and exited portfolio sources are retained separately; aggregate values are not allocated to private companies.
