John Donoghue

Brown University neuroscientist and BrainGate pioneer; became professor emeritus in July 2026 after a 42-year career at Brown and continues working on BrainGate. Previously Henry Merritt Wriston Professor of Neuroscience and professor of engineering. Helped establish intracortical brain-computer interfaces that allow people with paralysis to control computers and assistive devices, and built Brown's brain science research program. His work focuses on restoring communication and voluntary movement through neural interfaces.
