Frank Willett
Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery at Stanford and co-director of the Neural Prosthetics Translational Laboratory. Also publishes as Francis R. Willett. Develops brain-computer interfaces for communication and movement after paralysis, including handwriting decoding and large-vocabulary speech decoding. Earned a PhD in biomedical engineering at Case Western Reserve University, then worked at Stanford as a postdoctoral scholar and research scientist before joining the faculty in 2025. Co-first author of the 2023 Nature paper A high-performance speech neuroprosthesis.
