Neo-Bionica
Fitzroy, Melbourne, Victoria, Australia · United States
Neo-Bionica Pty Ltd is an Australian neurotechnology contract development and manufacturing company established in July 2021 as a joint venture between the Bionics Institute and the University of Melbourne. Its Australian Business Register entry identifies ABN 78 645915699, active from 1 July 2021. Based at St Vincent’s Hospital Melbourne in Fitzroy, with a team in the United States, it helps innovators turn implantable and wearable medical-device concepts into engineered prototypes, devices for first-in-human studies and clinical-grade manufacturing processes. Its capabilities include bioelectronics, neural interfaces, electrode fabrication, implantable power and wireless systems, firmware, miniaturisation, computational modelling, system integration, high-reliability assembly, hermetic packaging and precision machining. The company reports an ISO 13485-certified quality system and ISO 7 cleanrooms, alongside laser seam welding and hermeticity testing. Its work is relevant to neuroscience and deep technology through active implantable neurotechnology, brain-computer interfaces, neurostimulation and bionic medical devices; engineering and manufacturing capability does not establish clinical approval of every client’s device. The current main directory names 18 leadership, engineering and board members, including CEO Ludovic Labat and chair Emma Cleary. White-paper author Gil Rind is documented with a qualified published affiliation because he is absent from the current main directory. Former CTO Uli Gommel states that he ended the role in April 2026; founding chair Lusia Guthrie is recorded historically. Breakthrough Victoria announced a specific AUD 5 M convertible-note investment on 16 May 2024. Separate public support includes an AUD 4 M Victorian Higher Education State Investment Fund facility/research/voucher allocation at the 2021 opening and a federal Industry Growth Program Project Andromeda grant of AUD 250 K excluding GST, announced 9 January 2025. These government grants are recorded separately from the convertible note. A published client testimonial about securing 1 M belongs to Kali Healthcare, and early Ian Potter Foundation funding went to the Bionics Institute’s predecessor project; neither is extra Neo-Bionica equity financing.
