Biotope Ventures is the early-stage biotech investment platform associated with biotope by VIB in Ghent, Belgium. The incubator platform began in spring 2022 and its first separate investment vehicle launched in February 2023. The current legal manager is Biotope General Partner BV, enterprise 1023.886.864, established June 2, 2025, a Belgian small alternative-investment-fund manager listed by the FSMA from October 10, 2025. It manages a first Biotope Ventures BV vehicle, enterprise 0786.781.648, and Biotope Ventures II CommV, enterprise 1024.242.497. VIB is the founding scientific institution, programme operator and a fund LP, a distinct nonprofit rather than the manager or an additional duplicate issuer buyer. Biotope supports pre-seed science-based ventures in planetary health, agrifood, sustainable biomaterials and biotechnology, using convertible lending alongside scientific, business, IP and regulatory support. Current public five-person operational team is shared with VIB. The first fund announced an actual EUR4.5M first close on February9,2023; FundII announced an actual EUR5M first close on June16,2025, toward an unclosed EUR9M target. The homepage separates EUR250K cash from EUR100K support while the investment page quotes EUR350K convertible support: those differing published programme terms are qualified rather than assumed to be every company’s cash check.
